Learning How to Help Yourself Begins With Identification.

To help yourself find success, you must first know who you are. To know who you are requires some work, and I’ll help you get there.

  • I had no idea where to begin on my self-help journey. The only thing that I knew was that I disliked where I was currently at in my life.
  • When I realized my dislike for my current situation, I just graduated High school and was having the first life catastrophe I’ve ever had.
  • Thoughts of, “What am I going to do with my life?”, “Do I want to do what everyone tells me to do?”, and “What if I hate my life?” ravaged my mind.

Do these sound like familiar thoughts?

  • As humans, we are designed to evolve and grow. However, no one wants to talk about the fact that they need help, their feelings, and their past.

BUT THAT’S NORMAL…

  • So, I found a way to help myself become who I want to be.

How did I do it?

  • It all began when someone said to me, “What do you like?”.

I had never once thought about my likes getting me out of a horrible life situation that I dreaded daily. Yet, I also had never thought about what I liked before. I had always just done what everyone had told me and sucked it up.

Realizing I could choose to do what I liked began my self-help journey.

  • When I began writing what I enjoyed doing, what ideas I liked, and so forth, I had a realization that I didn’t have much… and that’s completely normal!

What’s the science behind identifying my likes?

  • According to Psychology Today, “the process of identifying and disidentifying with things we like or dislike is a fundamental way of locating ourselves in the world and, in effect, of deciding who we are and what we stand for. Sharing our feelings with others and getting feedback on what we said helps solidify those claims.” 1

Science simplified:

  • Identifying my likes helped me realize who I am and where I want to begin my self-help journey.
  • It helps you do the same.

What about dislikes?

  • Dislikes are important to identify also.
  • For me, the beginning of my self-help journey began with a tremendous amount of dislikes.
  • The result? I was able to formulate my success around my likes and slowly the dislikes no longer bothered me.
