Why Self-Improvement is Important to Do Your Way

Self-improvement is not a 1-way fits-all endeavor.

Self-improvement is finding resources that help you improve what you want in your life. In this article, you’ll find why self-improvement is important to be done your way. NEVER do self-improvement in a way that doesn’t feel right to do for you.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us

  • You’re the only one living your life, know your needs, and know your talents, limits, and thoughts.
  • Other’s way of preaching self-improvement, or why you shouldn’t help yourself, are all listening to their thoughts. They’ve been taught, seen, and hopefully, integrated their self-help practices, which worked for them.

If a self-improvement practice works for someone else, it may NOT work for you.

Why it took me that hard way to figure out I must do self-improvement practices my way:

  • When I began my self-help journey and self-improvement practices, I went to healer after healer. I read every self-help book I could on the market. I implemented the practices, even when my gut said that the practices weren’t for me.
  • The result? One of the self-help practices landed me in worse health and on emergency medication!

Implementing other’s self-help practices, led me to be in a worse position than before I implemented self-help.

So, what did I do?

  • I began only implementing the practices that fueled me, instead of drained me.
  • I began trying one self-improvement practice, seeing if it worked for me, and if it didn’t, I let it go.

EVEN if it was a practice that others swore by.

Examples of Self-Improvement Practices I implemented and enjoyed:

  • Change your bad habits.
  • Formulate your idea of success.
  • Developing a hygiene routine.
  • Positive thinking and reframing negative thoughts.
  • Beginning a workout routine.
  • Implementing self-love practices.
  • Repeating affirmations.
  • Feeling worthy.
  • Building self-esteem.
  • Building self-confidence.
  • Stop negative thinking.
  • Learning motivation techniques.

I’m just a beginner! How do I know which one is right for me?

  • Beginning a self-improvement journey always begins with hitting rock bottom. It’s an accomplishment for you to even be reading this article because I know from a personal perspective, that self-help is extremely difficult to admit you need.
  • Start focusing on one thing you’d like to improve and implement a practice around that topic.
  • You’ll know if you enjoy or dislike the practice.
  • If you dislike the practice, move it to a “try again later” bucket or the trash.

The next step… When you find what works for you, keep going!

  • The best thing you can do for yourself is find happiness in improving.
  • I’m proud of you for getting this far.
  • Try some practices and let me know what works for you and what doesn’t in the comments below!

Remember, you have the power of choice. You can choose to help yourself become the version of you that you dream of. Don’t give up.
